High Blood Pressure and the Use of Medication

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

The use of medication as the primary form of treatment for High Blood Pressure has come on in leaps and bounds over the past fifty years and what was once a very inexact science has now become one where by and large it is very exact. The treatment programmes that were instigated seem very primitive in hindsight and thankfully now with the introduction of increasingly sophisticated drug therapy matters have moved ahead somewhat.
As recently as just over fifty years ago, a diagnosis of High Blood Pressure or Hypertension was in fact viewed as roughly identical to being given a form of death sentence. The prognosis was such that most medical experts knew that the high blood pressure would lead to a stroke, it was just that there was very little that a healthcare professional could do about it. The only aspect in question was where and when the stroke would occur.
The major treatment approach of High Blood Pressure Medication at the time largely consisted of advising patients to have a diet that was low in salt, lots of “bed rest” and possibly the use of sleeping pills.
Drug treatment for those suffering from High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) can significantly increase the lifespan and reduce mortality rates accordingly and to millions of people the world over (myself included) these drug related therapies have been very much a life saver.
However as with most things, the use of drug therapy, whilst extremely useful in most cases, is not always the best choice for people in certain cases.
For those suffering with moderately raised blood pressure, mild incidences of Hypertension and no incidences of Heart Problem, you can usually bring blood pressure down to normal levels in a bout a year of starting lifestyle changes. Changes like these can help sufferer’s of high blood pressure manage HBP over the longer term as well since as we all know Hypertension does not go away. Successful management of high blood pressure like this ensures that in some cases (and it does have to be stressed here that we are talking about some cases) the use of medication can and does become unnecessary.
Whenever and wherever, the instigation of non drug therapies is encouraged and even if not successful in isolation, the end result means that the amounts of drugs and the types used can be of a more reasonable amount and type.
We have to stress once again that whenever possible non drug “lifestyle therapies” such as the reduction in the intake and consumption of alcohol, reduction in the consumption of sodium related products, loss of weight, cutting back on and the possible cessation of smoking has to be encouraged. These are now being added to with increased usage of relaxation techniques and other “anti-stress” controls such as increased exercise.
The use of alternative non drug related therapies for some is not an option. In some cases, the phrase High Blood Pressure medication really does apply to drug related therapies. We plan to take a look at these therapies in subsequent articles.

Doctors usually recommend watching your diet, exercise and taking medications to treat high blood pressure. But with the array of side-effects, you might want to reconsider. It is also important to know that these medications work by thinning the blood or widening the arteries. Though your score could drop to normal, you are not curing the disease.1. Diuretics- One of the most popular treatments is a prescription diuretic. These drugs remove fluid and salt (and nutrients) from the body to lower the blood pressure. The problem with diuretics is that it also removes nutrients and potassium from the body. The side-effects of diuretics are flushing water, nutrients, causes weakness, dizziness and irregular heartbeat.2. Beta-Blockers- The second major category of blood pressure medication is known as beta blockers. These drugs reduce the nerve impulses to the heart and blood vessels, making the heart beat more slowly and with less force. This causes the blood pressure to drop because the blood is putting less force on the vessels. Beta-blockers’s symptoms include: increased asthma symptoms, increased heart rate, lowered good cholesterol, insomnia, cold hands and feet, tiredness and depression. 3. ACE Inhibitors- Taking an ACE inhibitor can help the blood vessels relax, allowing blood to flow more easily. Side effects of ACE inhibitors can include skin rashes, loss of your sense of taste, or a chronic, and dry cough. In rare instances kidney damage can occur. Though there are various inhibitors, they do have similar side effects which can be a concern to everyday life.4. Alpha Blockers- Alpha blockers reduce nerve impulses to the blood vessels. Without the impulses, the muscles can’t contract. This relaxes the blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more easily and the blood pressure to be reduced. Side effects include: headaches, nausea, weakness, pounding heart, weight gain and increase of “bad” cholesterol. A long-term study also showed alpha blockers can cause heart failures.A Homeopathic Remedy for High Blood Pressure that Cures

Unfortunately, most doctors tell you this and forget to tell you the other treatments you can be doing to lower your score and eventually be med-free.

The truth is that doctors are educated in medical schools were natural health and simple ‘common sense’ secrets are not taught. Unfortunately, medicine and antibiotics are only being taught because our medical industry is completely reliant upon pharmaceutical companies.

High Blood Pressure Medications (Diuretics, Beta Blockers, Alpha Blockers, and Vasodilators) work because they lower your blood pressure. The problem is that they make it look that you are healthy but are your numbers showing the truth?

High Blood Pressure medications work because they synthetically alleviate the pressure of the arteries and blood. For instance, with diuretics the blood will become less salty (less thick) and your pressure with drop. Another example would be beta blockers which synthetically cause the heart to beat slower.

Though these medications look good on paper, they are NOT treating the disease known as the ’silent killer’. In fact, they could be prolonging your life but they will never fully treat the disease. And statistics show that users will eventually die from the high blood pressure.

But what if you could naturally treat high blood pressure.7 Hypertension Tips Your Doctor Won’t Share with You
